The Erde Story
Childhood is muddy knees and afternoon naps. A dress that twirls just right. A fabric so soft you forget you are wearing it.

Erde began with my daughter, Niva.
When she was born, something shifted in the way I looked at clothes. I wanted fabrics that felt genuinely soft against her skin — natural, breathable, light enough for an Indian summer, yet made with care that shows and holds.
After fifteen years in international garment manufacturing, I knew fabric, construction and finish — and what separates a well-made piece from one that merely looks the part. India had incredible craft and gifted artisans, yet children’s clothing that brought natural fabrics and artisan hands together was surprisingly hard to find.
That gap quietly became an obsession — and Erde grew from it.
“Why should a parent have to choose between a garment that feels good and one that looks beautiful? Why should comfort come at the cost of craft?”
Handmade kids clothing in natural fabrics, made in India.
Every Erde piece is designed in India and made by skilled artisans in small, intentional batches — in cottons chosen for India’s climate, finished with embroidery and smocking built to last the wear childhood demands.
No synthetic base fabrics. Every fabric chosen for how it feels against young skin in India’s climate.
Each piece is made by hand. Small variations in embroidery and smocking are the honest mark of genuine craft.
We produce carefully, in small runs. Every piece that leaves us has been thought about, not just manufactured.

The mothers who choose Erde notice things. They run a finger along a seam. They want to know it will hold — through washing, through wearing, through the energy children bring to everything they love.
Niva remains my most honest test. If she reaches for it unprompted, it has passed. If it still looks like itself a year later, that is the standard we design to.
“Erde began with Niva — and it continues because of every family that has chosen to bring one of our pieces into their home. We are small by choice. What that gives us is attention — to the fabric, the finish, the fit, and the family on the other side of every order. That is the promise I made when I started this, and the one I intend to keep.”
